Distilled Water

Software Industry is one of the few industries that had grown enormously in the last decade.  A unique set of health disorders of people also associate with this industry.  They vary from minor posture issues to major paralysis issues. A simple way to solve them is drinking pure water. Yes, majority of disorders occur due to lack of exercise or chronic mind pressures.  A walk from the desk to water dispenser provides a much needed break and exercise to move other organs.  Even my organization has distilled water in every corner of the floor. The most best of all is that, it is a T6 water dispenser. It is a complete cost effective, time and space saving office water dispenser solution, offering instant filtered boiling, hot and chilled water from a modern, intelligent stylish unit. Every time I see T6, I say to myself “Thanks for saving me from all disorders”.

7 Most hacked software of 2009

HackerWhich are the software that are top on hackers' hitlist? Applications and software that are most vulnerable and are the potential targets of scammers and hackers to install malicious codes into your PC?

Forbes recently released 2009's `Most-Hacked Software' list. The list names the software and applications that were biggest targets of hacker attacks in 2009. The software used most by hackers and other cyber criminals to sneak into your system and cause havoc.

Here's over to the 7 Most Hacked Software of 2009.

Adobe Reader
Adobe ReaderThis year's Most hacked software belongs to (no not Microsoft) Adobe. Adobe Inc's popular software Adobe Reader is the most hacked software of the year. Security firm iDefense reportedly tracked as many as 45 bugs in the Adobe Reader programme this year. The number is up from 14 in 2008 and seven in 2007.

Security experts feel that Reader being a universally used programme makes it highly vulnerable. Also, its complex code base offers a high risk of flaws.

Internet Explorer
Internet ExplorerAt No. 2 on the Most Hacked Software list is Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Little surprising that the browser with majority marketshare (almost 65%) is hot on hackers and scammers target list. According to the news report, IE's complex code base with no shortage of bugs helps hackers.

Security researchers found 30 bugs in IE this year, almost the same number as last year and way down from 49 found in 2007.

Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla FirefoxThe open source browser Mozilla Firefox is the year 2009's third Most Hacked Software. Closest rival to Internet Explorer with approximately 25% marketshare, recorded an increase in vulnerabilities this year.

Researchers and cybercriminals found as many as 102 bugs in Firefox this year, an increase of 12 bugs vi-a-vis last year's 90 bugs. Wondering what makes its more vulnerable than IE which showed 30 bugs? Remember, the two cannot be compared directly as Firefox is an open-source programme and Mozilla publicly reveals all its bug finds.

Adobe Flash
Adobe FlashAt No. 4 on the Most Hacked Software list is Adobe's popular design software Flash, commonly used for viewing animations and movies. The report found 11 vulnerabilities in the programme this year, down 8 from 19 last year.

According to the report, the vulnerabilities pose a potential danger as the software used for viewing videos and animation requires no interaction with the user to infect the machine with malicious software.

Apple Quicktime
Apple QuicktimeNext on the hit-list of hackers is Apple Quicktime, a multimedia framework used for handling various formats of digital video, media clips, sound, text, animation and music. Though Apple talks about immunity from bugs in its machines, however, security experts feel that relative security comes from its low marketshare and not careful coding.

According to the report, 26 bugs were found in Quicktime in 2009, down 10 from 36 found in 2008. The number looks high compared to mere 3 found in Windows Media Player.

Microsoft Office
Microsoft OfficeAt No. 6 is another Microsoft software, Microsoft Office. IDefense tracked 41 bugs in Microsoft's popular suite of apps in 2009, down from 44 in 2008. According to the report, hackers many a times use Microsoft Office applications like PowerPoint, Excel or Word document to plant malicious code.

Windows
WindowsAnother Microsoft software on Most Hacked Software list is at no. 7. The company's Windows-based operating system continue to be top on hackers radar. Experts believe that the fact that Windows vulnerabilities can be exploited without a user actually doing anything makes the software hacker-prone.

For example the Conficker worm spread to over 7 million PCs last year without requiring a user to visit a website, or open an attachment or actually do anything else, other than just leave their computers running.

Yahoo to go for weeklong shutdown

Yahoo says it will close its offices from Christmas through New Year's to help save money. The cost-cutting move ends a year in which Yahoo's revenue declined for the first time since 2001.

It's the first time that Yahoo has required most of its 13,200 employees to use vacation time or unpaid leave during the holidays. Only employees performing essential duties will be working from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1.

Yahoo Inc, based in Sunnyvale, California, has eliminated about 2,000 jobs and shed other expenses since September 2008. The streamlining has helped offset a 12 percent decline in Yahoo's revenue through the first nine months of this year.

Several other Silicon Valley companies traditionally close most of their offices during the holidays.

Microsoft’s 10 hot new technologies

Microsoft’s 10 hot new technologies Microsoft recently hosted its annual Professional Developers Conference (PDC). The company showcases its new technologies to the software developer community at the conference.

At PDC 2009, Microsoft gave developers a view into the slew of new technologies and new releases of its existing products/technologies it is working on.

Here's looking into the 10 hottest technologies Microsoft is working on.

Silverlight 4
Silverlight 4 Microsoft unveiled a beta version of Silverlight 4, the company's competitor to Adobe's Flash Player plugin. Silverlight 4 will focus on media, business applications, and working `behind the browser'. Features include access to webcams and microphones, multi-cast streaming, output protection, and offline DRM support.

Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president of Microsoft's developer division said that Silverlight 4 will tackle processor-intensive tasks at almost twice the rate of its predecessor, and will provide 30% faster startup.

The beta is now available, and the final release is scheduled for the first half of 2010.

Internet Explorer 9
Internet Explorer 9 Microsoft also gave a few details on the next edition Internet Explorer, IE9. Internet Explorer 9 will be the first browser to use hardware acceleration to render all kinds of images, videos and text. Other tweaks include rounded edges on text boxes and support of HTML 5.

Windows President Steven Sinofsky claimed that Internet Explorer 9 will enjoy a serious performance boost, but held back from promising any launch date.

`Dallas’
`Dallas’ Microsoft's codename `Dallas’ is a new service that allows developers and information workers to easily discover, purchase and manage premium data subscriptions in its cloud-based Windows Azure platform.

According to web reports, Dallas is an information marketplace that brings data, imagery and real-time Web services from leading commercial data providers and authoritative public data sources together into a single location, under a unified provisioning and billing framework.

Pinpoint
Pinpoint Pinpoint is an enterprise level cloud-based application store for developers using the Azure cloud. Pinpoint aims to help developers and technology service providers get software applications and professional services to market -- and engage customers who need what they offer.

It is said to be the largest directory of qualified IT companies and their software solutions built on Microsoft technologies.

PinPoint is likely to compete with Salesforce.com’s four-year-old AppExchange online marketplace and other similar app stores.

`Sydney'
`Sydney' Bob Muglia, Microsoft's president of Server and Tools Business said that with Windows Azure, Microsoft will be entering into beta Project Sydney in 2010. The new project will enable users to connect their existing servers inside of their data center together with services that are running with Windows Azure.

Sydney creates a kind of virtual network that ties together pieces of an application or process running at various places so that they all look like one logical system.

AppFabric
AppFabric Another key technology introduced by Microsoft is AppFabric. AppFabric is an application server layer that includes the cloud and internal servers to provide developers a single, consistent environment for .Net applications.

AppFabric combines hosting and caching technologies formerly code-named Dublin and Velocity. AppFabric comes in two flavors: Windows Server AppFabric and Windows Azure platform AppFabric. Beta 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 was released recently and a beta for Azure is expected in 2010.

Pivot
PivotMicrosoft's Live Labs team introduced an experimental prototype application codenamed `Pivot'. Pivot is an application that aims to make it easier to view and interact with massive amounts of data in ways that are powerful, informative and fun.

According to a description on the Live Labs Web site, it is meant to combine search, browsing and recommendations to create a more unified Web experience. For example, if you have 10,000 magazine covers and you're looking for only India-specific covers, it will sort out only India-specific covers.

Presently, Microsoft is offering a limited technical preview of Pivot to a set of invited testers.

Office 2010 Beta
Office 2010 Beta Microsoft also released the public beta of Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Visio 2010, Microsoft Project 2010, Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 and Office Web Apps for business customers.

Know about File Extension .doc

The file extension DOC or doc is used for word processing documents, most commonly for Microsoft Word. Microsoft DOC files may be opened by any version of Word which is equal to or higher in version than the version in which it was created. Other programs which will open DOC files include Apple Pages and Apple Works, Nuance OmniPage Pro X, Microsoft Word Viewer, Nuance OmniPage Professional, and the free software OpenOffice.org Writer for either the Windows or Mac platform. Microsoft Word Pad, provided on any Windows platform computer will also open DOC files. StarOffice, AbiWord and Kword will also open DOC files.

There are, however, several other software programs that have used the file extension DOC. These are DisplayWrite 4 documents, Interleaf documents, Microsoft BIFF files, Palm Pilot DOC files, and Samna Word formatted text which is mixed ASCII and binary. If the icon displayed with a file does not have the Microsoft Word “W,” this doc file was probably created with one of these other pieces of software. Early uses of the DOC file extension were made by WordStar, Volkswriter, and the lesser known SmatWare, Sprint, Total Word, Wang IWP, and WordMarc. If a Word DOC file cannot be opened with Microsoft Word it may have been created in a higher version, or there may be registry errors. Liutilities.com or fileinfo.net offer a free registry scan and booster to fix errors. This is certified safe by Microsoft.

The best suggestion to create DOC files is to use the Microsoft software, rather than trying to create them through Open Office. This is because the file may sometimes fail unexpectedly and no longer be able to be opened. In this situation creating backup files on a very regular basis is recommended. Some viruses may corrupt DOC files making it impossible to open them with any Microsoft Word program. The reported error is “the document name or path is not valid.” If this occurs the text may sometimes be retrieved by using Word Pad, but formatting will be lost.
